Invincible
In today's edition of the Blue Bar, we focus on Arthas' steed Invincible, and how it's only available to the top percentile of the raiding population.
Invincible is looking to be a great mount, but it's only available to the top percentile of the raiding population.
The official preview for Invincible, a new in-game mount available only in Icecrown Citadel, has been made available on the official website. This is not just any mount mind you, but Arthas' very own.
... Invincible was not bred to be a warhorse, but after he was brought back from the dead and made immune to hunger, pain, and exhaustion, he became the perfect steed for Arthas. Now the skeletal charger stalks Icecrown Citadel, ever at the ready to serve his beloved master.
Arthas and Invincible were as one until parted by the stallion's untimely death. Now, they are rejoined in death through the power of the Lich King and pose a fearsome sight for all who gaze upon them. Only the power of the heroes of Azeroth can part them once more.
In order to attain such a steed, one must conquer Icecrown Citadel and face the Lich King on Heroic difficulty. Perhaps you will be the lucky individual to obtain the most coveted of mounts -- the Invincible Charger. This reward awaits those who are brave enough to tempt fate and face the full wrath of the Lich King!

Invincible is looking to be one of the best mounts ever put in the game thanks to its attached lore. If you've ever set foot in the Warcraft universe, you probably know who Arthas Menethil is. Who wouldn't want the chance to claim the Lich King's dark steed as their very own?
The overall attention to detail on the mount is great. The one major graphical complaint is concerning its wing structure. The wings feel very awkward when they expand, collapse, and flap during flight. If not for the wings, the mount would look perfect. The gold plating covering the entirety of the mount is an especially nice touch.
I know of several people who absolutely love Warcraft lore. I'm talking about the lore that surrounds key figures such as Jaina and Arthas; and not the more recent lore surrounding Ulduar that the majority of the people I know of can sum up in one word , Dwarves. The issue with the mount is that these players simply don't have the time or means to find a decent group to raid with, or lack the skill altogether. To me this is just another, albeit very cool, mount with slightly awkward looking wings. To others, it's something they may potentially jump up and down for IRL if they ever got to loot it. But from the two, I'm more likely to acquire it.
Let's look at another even rarer mount, Mimiron's Head. Most players didn't care very much about this mount because although it was well designed and unique, the lore attached to it was not nearly as exciting as that attached to Arthas. Most who sought the mount wanted to simply show it off to others as a show of their skill at killing Yogg-0. There was very little issue with only giving it to the elite raiding population, and to most people, including the ones who got it, it was just a fun toy for achieving a great feat.
Take a closer look at the accessibility of Invincible. Consider making it a very low drop rate on the Normal mode so that those not able to defeat the Lich King on Heroic difficulty still have a chance at it. Skin the mount differently if necessary and give it a slightly slower speed (280%) compared to it's Heroic counterpart (310%). That way, those who can defeat the Lich King on Heroic mode can still feel like they're earning a better reward. Give the general raiding population a better chance at such a lore-centric item, instead of just the very top percentile. Make many raiders happy instead of just the lucky few.

Keep in mind that the video of Invincible is ripped from PTR files. The Perky Pug pet had a similar model problem (his legs would twist awkwardly) when the PTR video of it was released, but this was fixed before it hit live. Chances are the devs noticed it, like everyone else in the community did, and it will look more natural come live.
