Anyone know where I can find a good read on holy priest tips? I played it last night in the alt raid and went oom and was spamming the hell out of my abilities but I felt like I wasn’t doing much…

Sorry I don’t know a site if you are looking for reliable information… I can give you some though.

For most fights you want to PoM and CoH on cooldown while spamming renew on people taking damage with the odd (most of the time very odd) flash heal on a low target person or debuffed target.  On fights where there isn’t a ton of damage you can use flashes to heal reactively instead of renews on everyone, or a combination of the two (maybe even hold off on CoH’s until AoE damage occurs).

To not run oom you need to be specced properly and have tons of spirit/mp5.  Priests are one of the few unbroken classes mana wise… we can easily go oom.  (I usually go 18 Disc for the mana regeneration).

The biggest tip in the game is to use Hope + Shadowfiend at the same time (Shadowfiend first, then Hope) and its almost (most of the time is) a full mana bar, so dont waste them until you are virtually out of mana.  If you figure the average fight lasts under 4-6 minutes, and it takes you 2-3 minutes to run out of mana, you can usually manage with this alone (assuming proper buffs/spec/enough regen from gear (easily obtainable by 245ilvl, maybe even 226)).

In regards to gear choices you want to find spirit/haste gear wherever possible, but spirit crit isn’t awful either if its a higher item level.

I learned early on as a Holy Priest that going oom can happen easier then not if you don’t have certain specs like a shadow priest or a ret pally going into the raid with you. One of the things I normally do in 10’s and 25’s is I will coordinate with a pally to throw what I like to call a “blue hammer” on the boss so I can wand from time to time. While this may seem silly, 5-7 seconds of wanding will push you into the FSR and allow a few extra seconds of mana regen to take full effect. Of course this is situational and I would only recommend doing this when your looking at the raid as a whole and able to determine if that float time is do-able or not.
